Southwest RegionIf it were only one of America's premier wine regions,
that would be enough. Add magnificent sand dunes, harbors filled with sailboats,
perch and salmon charters, a few dozen fabulous golf courses, and vast
orchards full of fruit, and Southwest Michigan becomes a playground you'll
never want to leave.
The cities of Southwest Michigan have much to offer the
vacationer. Battle Creek, home to Kellogg's, is the only town on earth
where one would expect to find a great family attraction like Cereal City,
USA. One of America's great festivals of magic happens each summer in the
village of Colon. Kalamazoo has the exciting Air Zoo with aircraft ranging
from a replica of the Wright Flyer all the way to the technologically advanced
F-14 fighter. Historic Marshall offers a storehouse of 19th century American
small town architecture that has given it status as a National Historic
Landmark District. And the harbor village of Saugatuck is well known for
its bed & breakfast inns, art studios, and perch/party boat fishing.
For outdoor adventurers, the coastline is a favorite destination
for hang gliders and wind surfers. Also, don't forget the many municipal
and state parks that provide thousands of acres of outdoor recreational
fun for the all family. Warren Dunes State Park and Yankee Springs State
Park are just two of that offer over 600 campsites and numerous hiking
trails.
