Thoroughbred Country
Farmers were drawn early to this land; stands of towering native pine provided building materials and a ready-made cash crop. Beneath the forests and the sprawling grasslands of the Aiken- Bamberg district lay deep, loamy soil that, combined with long growing seasons, made a planter's dream.
It was those year-round green pastures rolling across the sandhills that brought
west-central South Carolina one of the state's most celebrated "crops." Fine
horses thrive beneath the wide, warm skies in this open countryside.
